Cordova Bay With A View

Victoria BC

This seaside home already had stunning features, including a layout designed to take advantage of the ocean views, But the main living areas needed a complete refresh to harmonize the furnishings, artwork and styling with the home’s contemporary feel. Taking our cues from nature’s palette, we brought in the darker greys of natural stone along with blues that mirror views of sea and sky, warmed by rich touches of rust and yellows—all softened by sand and driftwood tones graced with elegant marble.

A new fireplace surround with built-in wood shelves helps the television vanish above the fireplace and helps create a personalized lounge nook under the stairs for the owners’ beloved dog, Teddy. To cover cracks in the concrete floors which couldn’t be repaired, we brought in soft and neutral hand-made area rugs directly from Morocco. Like the rest of the furniture, the rugs are lasting pieces that are also dog-friendly, and provide a lush contrast to the concrete, tile, and wood design elements throughout the spaces.

The clean lines of modular sofas from King Living and German-made Himolla recliners create versatile comfort with a contemporary style, allowing the original seascape artwork painted by the owner to take centre stage. In the dining room is another focal piece of art: the stunning live-edge dining table with a dry creek bed embedded through the centre. Together with the glass salmon sculpture we placed in the table’s centre, the dining room’s West Coast modern feel completes a cohesive design that reflects the natural beauty of this home’s oceanside setting.
