Good Fortune Asian Restaurant

A New Home For A Sidney Favourite

Good Fortune Restaurant has been a favourite fixture in Sidney for many years. When they moved to their new location in town, the owners wanted to incorporate their large collection of artifacts into the new design. Crucial to the design was a large fish tank, which the clients wanted to be placed centrally so that it could be viewed from every table. They also wanted to incorporate generous touches of the colour red, which holds deep symbolic meaning to them. In Chinese culture, red is an auspicious colour, representing luck, happiness, vitality, and joy—fitting symbols for a place where people gather to enjoy delicious food and the company of family and friends!

Positioning the fish tank in the centre, we then arranged seating to maximize the restaurant’s capacity without compromising flow and comfort. We created a large banquet along one wall to further maximize seating, visually defined by decorative fabric panels on the walls above. To showcase the owners’ treasured artefacts, we built gallery-like display boxes recessed into the walls, painted Chinese red with pot lighting to showcase each piece. A large display cabinet creates additional gallery space while also defining the front entry.

True to the symbolism so important in this design, the clients were a joy to work with. We are pleased to have created a stunning new setting for a restaurant that is bound to remain a fixture in the community for many years to come.
